David Spitzer Obituary

David Spitzer, age 71, of Munster, passed away on August 18th, 2025. Survived by mother in law Anne Nastav and brother in law Emil (Sherry) Nastav. Beloved husband of the late Carol Spitzer. Loving father of Jennifer (Anthony) Powell, Chris (Phyllis) Spitzer, Michelle (Steve) Brand, Jacqueline (Shawn) Cotreau, and Ben Spitzer. Cherished brother of Deborah (Joe) Sanchez and Tom Spitzer. Proud grandfather to Alex Powell, Nick (Abigail) Powell, Sara Taylor, Riley Wyrzykowski, Cole Cotreau, Dylan Cotreau, and Cash Cotreau. Dearest uncle to Mary Williams, Tom Nastav, Christina Sandmeyer, Rachel Lawson, John Nastav, Kaleigh (Eric) Rardin and Kelsey Sanchez.

David was a graduate of Indiana State University and later Purdue for his Masters. He was a Teacher at Munster High School. A Vice Principal at Clark High School. A Principal at Edgars Middle School and Principal at Hobart High School. He played a critical role in setting up many extracurricular vocational programs and JROTC. David was a passionate educator who served as a mentor and friend to many of his co-workers and students throughout the school cities of Munster, Hammond, and Hobart. He loved to go camping and fishing. He also loved traveling out to Las Vegas where he enjoyed the downtown area and visiting with some of his closest friends. David was a sports enthusiast who loved the Purdue Boilermakers, Chicago Bears, Chicago White Sox, and Chicago Blackhawks. He also loved horse racing. David was an avid supporter of animal shelters and adoption. He enjoyed the long walks at night he would take with his dog Zoey.

Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday August 28th, 2025 at Burns-Kish Funeral Home, 8415 Calumet Ave Munster, IN from 4 - 8 pm. Funeral services will be held the next day at the funeral home starting at 11 am. Interment will be at Memory Lane Cemetery, Crown Point, IN.
