Jeffrey (Jeff) Council - Class Of 1986

OBITUARY FROM CUTLER FUNERAL HOME (LA PORTE, IN) WEBSITE:

Jeffrey Scott Council, 57, of La Porte, IN, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones.

Jeff was born on October 6, 1967, in Gary, IN, to David H. Council and Kathleen (Schmidt) Council.

Jeff graduated from Hobart High School in 1986. In 1990, he graduated from Indiana University Northwest with a degree in criminal justice. In 1991, he graduated from the Indiana State Police 49th Academy. On June 27, 1992, he married Donna (Taylor) Council, who survives in La Porte. Jeff recently retired with 33 years of service as a Master Trooper serving La Porte and Porter counties.

Also surviving are Jeff and Donna's sons, Kevin (Grace Batic) of Rolling Prairie and Daniel (Matheus Carvalho) of La Porte; grandson, Lane Council of Rolling Prairie; his mom, Kathy Council of Hobart; brother, David A. Council of Wheatfield; brother in-law, Brian Taylor of Valparaiso; nephew, Jake (Jill) Cooney of La Porte; nieces, Madison Taylor of Chesterton and Katie (Mike) Melsheimer of Bloomington; great niece, Stella Cooney; great nephews, Cade Cooney, and Conner and Finley Melsheimer; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Jeff was preceded in death by his dad, David H. Council of Hobart; his grandparents, Harvey and Vera Council and George and Hannah Schmidt, all of Hobart; and several cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Jeff loved and protected his family all of his life. His sons and grandson were his pride and joy, and he loved spending every possible minute with them and his wife, Donna. Jeff absolutely loved being a dad and "gramps." Every single stage of his children's lives and his grandson's life were his favorite. One of his favorite things to do for his family was to cook for them. No one could prepare steak, chicken, turkey...you name it... like Jeff. His wife Donna thought he could have easily made a living as a chef.

Jeff loved to be outside in nature fishing or hunting whenever he could. He was a dog lover, and the family dog Bela June Council was his spoiled princess. Growing up, Jeff enjoyed participating in sports such as cross country, tennis, and baseball. As an adult, Jeff was an avid sports fan who loved the Chicago Bears, Bulls, and Cubs.

Jeff and his family have appreciated the tremendous outpouring of love and support from family, friends, coworkers, and our church families at Door Village United Methodist Church and the First Church of God in La Porte during the length of his illness. The prayers were felt the entire time, and they helped in many ways.

The family also wishes to express their great appreciation for the love and care that Jeff received from all of the staff members at VNA Hospice in Valparaiso, especially his cousin, Bob Franko. The staff there also took very good care of Jeff's family. Jeff was able to be comfortable and surrounded by his family the entire time. The family will be forever grateful to everyone there.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions please be made to: VNA Hospice, 501 Marquette St., Valparaiso, IN 46383, www.vnanwi.org.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, at First Church of God, 2020 E. Lincolnway, La Porte, IN 46350 from 2:00-6:00 p.m. At 6:00 p.m., there will be a service held for Jeff. It will be officiated by Donna's cousin, Dr. Roger Taylor, with assistance from Door Village United Methodist Pastor, Sam Polito.

A private burial service will take place in the Garden of Heroes at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso, IN. Jeff's dad and grandparents, on the Council side of the family, are buried nearby in the Resurrection Garden.
