William Richter - Class Of 1971

William “Bill” Anthony Richter, 57, of Cañon City, died May 4, 2011. He was born Nov. 6, 1953, in Gary, Ind., to Wilfred “Bud” and Mary (Massa) Richter. Bill graduated from Hobart High School in 1971 and went to work for U.S. Steel in Gary, Ind. In 1978, he moved to Cañon City, where he worked for the City of Cañon City, then the Cañon City Fire Dept., and in 1989 began working for the Colorado Dept. of Corrections, where he was a Hearings Officer. Bill was a true outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, shooting, and trapping.

He is survived by his children, Aaron Richter, Caleb Richter, both of Cañon City, Beth Richter, of Watertown, Wis.; Dena Wangerin-Richter, of Cañon City, mother of his children and companion of 30 years; cousin, John Andreis, of Cañon City; other relatives in Colorado and Indiana; as well as many friends and colleagues. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary, in 1971 and father, “Bud”, in 1996. Bill was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Memorial service, 7 p.m., Thursday, May 12, Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 801 Sheridan Ave., in Cañon City with Pastor Bob Kippley officiating.
