OBITUARY FROM REES FUNERAL HOME WEBSITE:
Sharon A. Gast (née Jackson), age 79, of Valparaiso, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 10, 2026. She was born on January 12, 1947, in Gary, Indiana, to the late Jess and Florence Jackson.
Sharon was a proud 1965 graduate of Hobart High School and treasured the lifelong friendships she maintained with her classmates, enjoying every opportunity to gather with them over the years. On December 8, 1967, she married the love of her life, John Gast, and together they shared nearly 60 wonderful years of marriage.
Sharon retired in 2007 from Wheeler High School, where she faithfully served as a secretary for many years. She was devoted to her family, who were always the center of her life. She loved hosting holiday gatherings, bringing everyone together around her table, and creating cherished memories. Sharon rarely missed one of her grandsons' sporting events and was their biggest fan. She also enjoyed traveling the country with John in their RV and looked forward each year to spending the winters together in Florida.
She is survived by her beloved husband, John Gast; her son, William (Ginger) Gast; her daughter, JoAnn (Chad) Mollencupp; her twin grandsons, Jonathon and Jackson Mollencupp; her sister, Marian (Don) Cary; and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Jess and Florence Jackson, and her younger sister, Susan Walleske.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. Cremation will follow the visitation.
