LINDA JOY BERKMAN (nee COHEN) Age 53 passed away on March 11, 2005 at her home in Crown Point, Indiana, with her family by her side. Linda was born February 12, 1952 in Gary, Indiana. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Maisie Cohen and her uncle, Jack Cohen.
Linda is survived by her children, Jennifer Berkman, Sam Berkman; step-son, John Berkman; their father and her ex-husband, Bruce (Linda M.) Berkman, whom she called her best friend; her sister, Dorothy (Ed) Isenberg of Las Vegas, NV; brothers, Howard Cohen and Robert Cohen of Portage, IN; twin sister, Cindy Murphy of Conway, Arkansas; step-mom, Marge Clement of Terre Haute, IN; stepsister, Terry Sherwood of Terre Haute, IN; step-brother, Jerry Pharr of Montezuma, IN; aunt, Iva Cohen of Phoenix, AZ; cousins, Randy and Miles; nieces and nephews, Lorraine, Jill, Tara, Mandy, Lisa, Michael, Jenny's dog, Skyla and many, many fine friends.
Linda's past employment included waitressing at the Patio; dental assistant for doctor's Daniel Kozlowski and Hubert Sellers of Merrillville, IN and sales for Sears Homelife Furniture. Linda was a successful agent for Farm Bureau Insurance in Crown Point, IN for the past several years, a job she was proud of. She leaves behind many friends and co-workers at the agency. Linda's pride and joy were her children, Sam and Jenny, whom she was so involved with over all the years in their sports and school activities. She was so proud that they both graduated from Purdue University, Lafayette (Go Boilers!). Jenny took leave from her job and Sam took leave from law school to be with their mom during her battle with ovarian cancer. Linda was fortunate to have her twin sister, Cindy, a true angel, come and stay with her since last April. Cindy is a registered nurse who took leave from her job in Conway, Arkansas to help care (along with Jenny and Sam) for Linda. She would not leave her sister's side. The family was very comforted by the wonderful doctors and nurses at Rush Presbyterian Hospital, St. Anthony Hospital, Methodist Hospital and Premier Hospice. Linda was very brave.
Funeral services will be held on March 16, 2005 at 10 a.m. at the Ridgelawn Funeral Home with Reverend Larry Shaver officiating. Visitation will be held on March 15, 2005 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Ridgelawn Funeral Home, 4201 W. Ridge Road, Gary, IN. For more information, please call (219)980-5555. \
