Jeff Hoeg - Class Of 1970

OBITUARY FROM THE HOBART GAZETTE (August 14, 1998):

Jeffrey Michael Hoeg, 46, died at his home in Potomac, Maryland. He was a 1970 graduate of Hobart High School. He was a research scientist who had worked for the National Institute of Health since moving to the Washington area in 1980. He died of renal cancer July 21, 1998. Dr. Hoeg, a former internist, had worked since 1980 with the Molecular Disease Branch of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, where he was a medical staff fellow and senior investigator. Since 1991, he had been section chief of cell biology. He was a captain in the U.S. Public Health Service. Dr. Hoeg was a native of Hobart and a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Indiana University, where he also received a medical degree and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. After an internship and residency in internal medicne at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, he worked two years as chief resident at the Veterans Administration Hospital in St. Louis. He was a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Nutrition, the American College of Cardiology, the council on arteriosclerosis of the American Heart Association and the American Federation of Clinical Research. He also served on the editorial boards of publications that included the American Journal of Cardiology and the Journal of Biological Chemistry. Dr. Hoeg was on the board of the National Institute of Health clinical research committee, finance committee, N.I.H. board of governors and the board of governors of the American College of Cardiology.

Dr. Hoeg is survived by his wife, Nancy Jean; two children, Jessica Jean Hoeg and Laura Nicole Hoeg, all of Potomac, Maryland; parents, Kenneth and Patricia Hoeg of Hobart; 2 sisters, Jill (William) Demmon of Monterey, Calif. and Jennifer (William) Tippett of Winnetka, Ill.
