OBITUARY FROM THE NORTHWEST INDIANA TIMES (December 21, 2007)

Johnnie R. "Whale Baby" Sons, age 55, of Rensselaer, IN, passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2007. Johnnie was a 1970 graduate of Hobart High School and served his country during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army. "Whale Baby" was an outstanding wrestler and baseball player at Hobart High School. He was an avid history buff and loved ice fishing.

Johnnie is survived by his wife, LaDonna; son, Jason Sons; two daughters: Nicole (Jeff) Kidd and Kelly Sons all of Rensselaer, IN; mother Norma Sons of Hobart; 10 grandchildren: Shania, Dakota, Logan, Ethan, Dalton, Dylan, Sierra, Lacey, Denny and Dagen; four brothers: Kirk (Debbie) Sons of Monticello, IN, Ronnie Sons of Hobart, IN, Tommy (Samantha) Sons of Hobart, IN and Danny Sons of Hobart, IN; four sisters: Peggy (George) Glotzbach of Hebron, IN, Betty (Jim) Sumler of Hobart, IN, Diane (John) Evanovich of Valparaiso, IN and Linda Wiegand of Crown Point, IN; feline companions: "Sasha" and "Ravi";= dear friend, Danny "Fats" Fay; and dear friend and uncle, Rich Skomp. He was preceded in death by his father, Hurshel; and brother, David.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 22, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart, IN. Burial will follow the service at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery, Hobart, IN. Visitation will be Friday from 2:00-9:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.
