In Memory

Roland Lewis - Class Of 1968

OBITUARY FROM REES FUNERAL HOME WEBSITE:

Roland H. Lewis, 73, of Hobart, IN, went home early Thursday morning to join his family and his Lord after a valiant battle with cancer.  But we know that cancer cannot defeat the joy of the Resurrection and we will see him again.

Roland was a 1968 graduate of Hobart High School and began working as a pipe-fitter apprentice at US Steel where he remained until his retirement.  His great loves were Sylvia, photography, bowling and his Harley – not always in that order.  Roland began his photography career at Holiday Star Theater taking concert photos.  He then moved on to doing weddings and sporting events.  He was especially known throughout the region as a sports photographer, particularly for the Hobart Brickies football team and the Wheeler High School girls’ soccer team.

Roland leaves behind a sister, Darlene, many cousins and hundreds of friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Rosemary Lewis and long-time companion: Sylvia Cates.

A special thank you is sent to the 2-West nurses of St. Mary’s and to Bob and Diane Thiel.  You know what you’ve done.

Family and friends may gather at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel (600 W Old Ridge Rd., Hobart) on Monday, May 15, 2023 from 4:00-8:00 P.M.  A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 from Rees Hobart Chapel with Pastor Nathan Kramer officiating.  At rest, Calumet Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Roland’s honor may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church (900 Luther Drive, Hobart, IN 46342) for the benefit of the school or the Comfort Dog Ministry.
