OBITUARY:

George J. Porumb, Sr., 61, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 2:37 am in Porter Hospital, Portage Campus, Portage, Indiana.

He was born April 26, 1949 in Binghamton, New York to the late George J. & Lois (Melcher) Porumb. On June 24, 1984 in Carson City, NV he married Mary Ann Topolski Granzo, who preceded him on May 4, 2005.

Surviving are 4 Daughters, Kimberly (Jason) Fikes of Jasper, AL, Kimberly (Dave) Bays, Michelle Granzo, and Stacy Granzo all of Michigan City; Son, George J. (Kelly) Porumb, Jr. of Moline, IL; 9 Grandchildren, 11 Great-Grandchildren; Brother, Sherman Wilcox of New Mexico; Sisters, Debby (Larry) Brownfield of Indiana, Pattee Porumb and Denise Thomas, both of Kansas.

He was preceded in death by Son, Timothy Granzo, and sister, Octavia Ham.

He was a Sgt with the US Army, having served two tours of duty in Viet Nam. He also served on the Veterans Memorial Committee in Chesterton, and was a life member of the VFW Post, Hobart, Indiana. He had worked for the past 38 years at Mittal Steel, Burns Harbor as a operator for the air, gas, and water treatment center. Mr. Porumb enjoyed world traveling, golfing, his coffee buddies at Lindo's Restaurant and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
