John Ray Simmons, age 55, of Portage, IN, at rest peacefully on October 23, 2005 at home surrounded by his loving family. 

John is survived by his devoted and caring wife, "Lee" (nee Palmer) of 14 years. John also leaves his loving children: Lisa (Rudy) Ruedemann of NJ, Dennis (Debbie) Simmons of Romeoville, IL, Ron (Sherri) Hanish of Highland, IN and Brian (Marie) Kheros of Lansing, IL. John is the proud grandfather of 12. John is the beloved son of William and Helen Simmons of Hobart, IN and grandson of John and Audrey Cockrum of Sesser, IL. John also leaves to mourn his passing his siblings: Fran (Ron) Winiarczyk of FL, Bill (Judy) Simmons of Lafayette, IN and Jayne (Dave) Atherton of Portage, IN; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews are left to mourn also and he will be truly missed by all.

John was employed with Larson-Danielson Construction with 14 years of service. Member of Indiana Carpenters Union Local 1005 for 34 years.

Family and friends may gather on Wednesday, October 26, 2005 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, P.O. Box 109 (one mile south of Rt. 30), Schererville, IN. Lying in State on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Abundant Life Tabernacle (The Rock Church), 5400 W. 29th Ave., Gary, IN (80/94 to Burr Street south 1 block to 29th) with Pastor Brent Endris officiating. Entombment Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens Garden of the Angels Mausoleum, Schererville, IN. His faith, fully established; helped him through this painful time. He found a sense of peace, knowing God's love is Devine. A carpenter by trade. A fisherman by avocation. He always put his heart in both his work and relaxation.
