Larry Thyen - Class Of 1968 VIEW PROFILE

OBITUARY FROM BURNS FUNERAL HOME WEBSITE:

Larry J. Thyen, age 71, a lifelong resident of Hobart, passed away September 19, 2021, after an arduous battle with cancer. He graduated from Hobart High School in 1968. Larry was a laborious worker that served the people of Hobart for thirty years as a police officer. He was an active member of the F.O.P. Lodge 121. After serving for the Hobart Police Department, he served for twelve years as a police officer for Purdue University Calumet in Hammond. Prior to Larry’s death, he was employed as a school bus driver for the School City of Hobart.

Larry was an avid sports fan and continued to attend as many Hobart High School football games as he could. He was an avid golfer that up until recently, still played in weekly golf leagues. Larry was a popular and gregarious man. He enjoyed maintaining social connections with former classmates, co-workers and colleagues. He will be deeply missed.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents-John and Louise (nee Maddosh) Thyen; sister-Joan Sopko; brother-in-law-Mike Sopko. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Visitation for Larry will be Tuesday, September 28, 2021 from 2:00 p.m., until the time of service at 6:00 p.m., at Burns Funeral Home, 701 East 7th Street, Hobart, Pastor Dale Combs officiating. Cremation to follow service. www.burnsfuneral.com.
