OBITUARY FROM BURNS FUNERAL HOME WEBSITE:

Obituary for Ellen Kimberly "Kim" Peters

Ellen Kimberly Peters, aged 66, of Calumet City, Illinois, passed away on November 3, 2024, with her children by her side.

Ellen, who went by “Kim”, was born on October 19, 1958, in Gary, Indiana, to Mary C. Peters and Richard A. Peters.

Kim graduated from Hobart High School in 1975, and later went on to study respiratory therapy at Ivy Tech Community College in 1980. She was a talented sketch artist and produced many cherished pieces throughout the 1990s. She was known to send letters and birthday cards illustrated with her artwork.

Kim had a spirit of lightheartedness and playfulness, a kind and sensitive demeanor, and a vivid and memorable sense of humor. When speaking about her life experiences, she spoke most often of her pride in her children and grandchildren. She said, “If I did anything right in this life, it was having them.”

Her family has fond memories of her baking peach cobblers in the summertime, playing at the beach at Warren Dunes, and playing in the snow like one of the kids. Her daughter recalls attending a field trip with her as a child to Sarett Nature Center in Benton Harbor, Michigan, recounting that she marveled at a beautiful Ginko tree in one of the gardens, and took time to pause and create a sketch of it. She was always willing to engage in fun with her family and cherished the time she had with them.

Kim had a caregiver’s nature and was instrumental in caring for her beloved mother in her final days. Kim’s family was grateful to have her nearby during that difficult time. She was also known to take care of neighbors and anyone nearby who may have needed homecare. She was excellent in caring for the elderly and enjoyed when she had opportunity to give back in that way. She equally enjoyed caring after her canine companion, Cookie, who brought her many days of laughter and comfort.

Kim is survived by her three children, Christine Faller, Nicole (Mike) McGee, and Jonathan (Claire) Hook; grandchildren, Gabriel Munda, Elijah McGee, Abram McGee; brother, Richard Peters; nieces, Julie Peters and Sarah (Patton) Holmes, and nephew, Christopher (Dani) Peters.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John Hook; beloved son, Clinton Faller; brother, Michael Peters; and parents, Mary and Richard Peters.

No visitation will be held. A private family ceremony will be arranged at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorial donations in Kim’s memory be directed to the Hobart Humane Society.

Kim had a lifelong belief in her Christian faith that never left her. Her words were: “Live and let live - God expects us to love one another, not judge them.” She lived by this rule; she was never judgmental and always encouraging. Her favorite flower was an Iris, and she will be remembered when seeing them in years to come.
