IRONS, Mich. - Hobart resident Jeffrey Ruchti, 35, was killed Thursday when he was struck by a boat driven by his wife on Big Bass Lake, according to the Lake County, Mich., Sheriff's Department.
Ruchti was being pulled on an inner tube by his wife Reesa, 35, who was driving a speedboat. The boat struck him when she turned it to retrieve another, unidentified person who had fallen off a second inner tube, police said.
County sheriff's deputies were called to the scene at 7:17 p.m. Jeffrey Ruchti was taken to Reed City Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, police said. Alcohol appears to have been a factor in the accident, which is still under investigation, police said. Ruchti had been employed as a millwright at U.S. Steel.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday at St. Stephen's Church, 1360 State St. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Portage.
