In Memory

Kathy (Kathryn, Kay) Winter - Class Of 1977

OBITUARY FROM ABBOTT FUNERAL HOME (DELPHI, IN) WEBSITE:

Kathryn Kay Walton (Winter), age 66, of Delphi, Indiana, passed away on January 16, 2026, in Avon Park, Florida. She was a loving sister, wife, mother, and grandmother.

Kathy was born on May 6, 1959, in Gary, Indiana to Alan and Jaqueline Winter. After graduating from Hobart High School, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Purdue University. During her time at Purdue, she met her husband, Ken Walton. They shared 44 years of marriage together filled with a love of travel, lifelong friends and family. Throughout her life, Kathy balanced her professional career with her greatest calling—being a mother, and later a grandmother. While her children were young, she dedicated herself fully to being a stay-at-home mom, ensuring her family always came first. Over the years, she worked as a secretary for MBAH Insurance and Lew Mullin law firm and served for more than 20 years as an office manager for the Carroll County Purdue Extension Office. Prior to retiring, she fulfilled her childhood dream of working in veterinary care with a role at Delphi Animal Hospital.  Kathy was deeply involved in her children’s lives. She attended every practice, game, and activity, never missing a chance to support them. She was especially passionate about her kids’ participation in the 4-H program, where she actively supported the dog obedience and llama programs, expressing her love for animals.   She found joy in spending time with family and friends, camping trips to state and national parks, traveling, participating in card club, crocheting, baking, spoiling her dog Chloe, cheering on the Boilermakers and Colts, and playing card games during family gatherings. She always had crafts and homemade treats ready for her visits with the grandchildren. Her many beloved pets over the years were a constant source of comfort and companionship. She loved going to the beach, sitting in the sun with a good book, and making homemade salsa with tomatoes from the garden. Some of her most cherished memories were spring breaks spent in Florida, and later, winters spent in Florida with her husband and friends in Avon Park. She especially enjoyed her afternoons at the neighborhood pool.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Alan and Jacqueline Winter. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Ken Walton, daughter Alecia Rogers (Brad) and grandchildren Annora, Emilia, and Cecilia, daughter Megan St-Hilaire (Pierre-Luc) and granddaughter Vanna, son Thomas Walton (Lauren), brother David Winter (Cindy), and brother Jeffrey Winter (Laura).  Kathy will be remembered for the friends she made and the family she cherished. To honor her memory, a local service will be held in Avon Park followed later this spring by a celebration of life in Indiana.  Details will be shared at a later time.
