In Memory

Cynthia (Cindy) Macdonald - Class Of 1976

OBITUARY FROM EDMONDS & EVANS FUNERAL HOME (PORTAGE, IN) WEBSITE:

Cynthia “Cindy” Rose MacDonald, age 64, of Riverwoods, IL passed away July 30, 2022 at home surrounded by her loving family after a difficult fight with cancer.

Cindy was born in Gary, IN on February 19, 1958 to Alexander (Alex) and Rosemary (Rosie) MacDonald. Growing up in the MacDonald household on 44th Place in Hobart, IN she attended St. Bridget’s Catholic School and Mundell Elementary School. She graduated from Hobart High School, class of 1976.

Cindy’s job was always as a full-time mom, managing the house, the meals, the schedule for her children, as well as their main source of entertainment and fun. While doing all her duties as mother she also provided for her family working at several local restaurants in Northwest Indiana. She retired from Ford Motor Company with several years of service.

Shortly after her early retirement she was diagnosed with scleroderma. After a hard and long struggle with the autoimmune disease she received a stem cell transplant at Northwestern University. This year Cindy celebrated 14 years since overcoming her battle with scleroderma.

Cindy was a practitioner of Reiki, lover of music, films, and an avid follower of current events and politics. She enjoyed hosting Christmas, pool parties, and family at any time.

Cindy took great pride in raising her grandson Matthew and loved being his “Grandma”. In 2014 she became “Memaw” to Molly and Evelyn, a title she wore with honor. There was nothing she looked forward to more than to be with her grandkids. “Grandma/Memaw” always made everything better.

Cindy was a dedicated and proud mother. She took great pains to always be available to help her kids in anyway. Her love came in hugs, meals, cherished stories, laughter, and songs to make them smile and face their fears.

She was a loving mother, “Grandma”, “Memaw”, daughter, sister, and friend. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched.

Cindy is survived by her daughters, Susan (Greg) Schafer, and Jessica Parker; and son, Donny (Lila) Parker; Grandchildren, Matthew Ensign, Molly and Evelyn Schafer; partner for 20 years, Harley Shimberg; life-long friend who was always by her side, Mary Martin Williams; and many other family members and friends who loved her. Special thank you to her sister, Teri Moran for always being with her.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 13 at 3:00pm at Edmonds and Evans Funeral Home 6941 Central Ave., Portage, IN 46368 (219)762-1330. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial visitation from 1:30pm until the time of service.
