In Memory

Sidney (Sid) Paxton - Class Of 1976

OBITUARY INFORMATION FROM BURNS FUNERAL HOME WEBSITE:

Sidney R. Paxton, 68, of Hobart passed away on October 9, in Valparaiso, the city he was born, after suffering a stroke earlier this summer. Sid was the second of three children of parents, Dorothy and Richard, who preceded Sid in death. Sid was a lifelong resident of Hobart, a graduate of Hobart High School class of 1976, after which he attended Indiana State University and Montana State University. Sid was an outstanding athlete as a Brickie, starring in football, basketball, and baseball, and earning all-conference recognition in all three sports. Sid held a variety of jobs in his life, from corporate recruiter in Chicago, to foreman at Dietrich Industries, Sid finished his working life as a union carpenter. Sid was always known as a hard and dependable worker. In his free time, he enjoyed being with family, playing golf, softball, spending time with friends watching sports, shopping at Costco, and growing flowers and tomatoes in his gardens. He had several loves in his life, both two-and-four-legged varieties, and he thought of them fondly over the years. He enjoyed walking Tia, his shepherd mix that he rescued from a job site near her death. Tia was followed by Lucy, who he inherited when his sister Jean passed in 2020. He loved his dogs and fed them nothing but Whole Foods chicken and organic beef!

While he loved his dogs, his true love was his family, late sister Jean and nephews and nieces Jamie Kadar (Jon Skaggs), David Eisenberg, Molly Eisenberg, husband Dale Eisenberg, Sam Kadar (Jessie), and great nephew and niece Lucas and Lilly Kadar; Sid’s brother Sam (Jeanne), and nieces Emma (Sebastien) Hue, great niece and nephew Celine and Julian Hue, niece Maggie (Willoughby) Jenett, and great nephew Cy Jenett. Family, friends, and neighbors have many memories of a gentle, generous, and quirky Uncle Sid, who was always there for you if you needed help or a truckload of firewood! He will be greatly missed by all. One lesson to learn from Sid’s passing is to have an annual physical exam to know what you may be facing in order to fight it while you can.

A memorial service will be held at Burns Funeral Home, 707 E. 7th St., Hobart, on Saturday, November 28, 2026, with visitation hours of 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M., with a service following at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Humane Society of Hobart, Humane Society of Hobart or Heart to Heart Hospice of Valparaiso, Compassionate Hospice Care From Our Heart To Yours - Heart to Heart Hospice .
