OBITUARY FROM POST-TRIBUNE, SEPTEMBER 13, 2003:

DEAN J. SCHMELTER Age 45, of Valparaiso, formerly of Hobart, passed away Friday, September 12, 2003. Dean was a Hobart High School graduate, Class of 1976 and has been a Valparaiso resident since 1986. Dean was an Indiana State Trooper serving at the Port of Indiana and also was employed at Porter Stark Services until poor health prevented him from working.

Survivors: friend, Bill Tull of Valparaiso; mother, Doretta Schmelter of Hobart; 1 sister, Marcia (Eric) Stubbeman of Indianapolis, IN; 3 brothers, Tom (Chris) Schmelter of Charlotte, NC, Bill (Dana) Schmelter of Crown Point, IN and Paul (Shelly) Schmelter of Hobart; 8 nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his father, Paul R. Schmelter in 1988.

Memorial contributions may be made to Save The Manatee Club, 500 N. Maitland Avenue, Maitland, FL 32751. A time of reflection will be held Monday, September 15, 2003, 8:30 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart. Friends may call Monday 6-9 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.
