Gloria Jean Knocke was born on November 4, 1945, in Hammond, Indiana, to Clara Ann and Delwin George Knocke Sr.
A graduate of Hobart High School, Gloria was actively involved in many school activities. Despite standing only 4’10”, she was a cheerleader and played the large bass drum in the band. Her high school years were marked by strong friendships that endured throughout her life. After graduation, Gloria pursued medical assisting studies in Chicago, launching a career in the healthcare field.
In 1965, Gloria married Thomas Hood, and they were together until 1990. During this time, she moved to Colorado, where she developed a deep love for the state’s blue skies, mountains, and the Denver Broncos. In 1983, Gloria began working as a medical assistant with Kaiser Permanente in Colorado.
In 1995, Gloria met Richard Carr, and the two married on December 31 of that year. They moved to Mansfield, Texas, where Gloria taught nursing at Remington College. She also completed an interior decorating course and internship, which inspired her to open her own business, The Designing Woman. Gloria enjoyed staying active, playing tennis and pickleball, and was known for her competitive spirit, especially when it came to playing dominoes. She loved traveling, particularly to the Rocky Mountains, which always felt like home to her.
Gloria’s deep faith and love for her family were central to her life. She and Richard remained happily married until her passing on October 31, 2024.
Gloria was preceded in death by her mother, Clara Ann Knocke; father, Delwin George Knocke Sr.; and brother, Delwin George Knocke Jr. She is survived by her loving husband, Richard Carr; children Olivia (Mark) Sanchez, Melissa (Chad) Soliz, and Matthew (Theresa) Hood; eight grandchildren; and her brother, David (Linda) Knocke. She is also survived by an extended family, including Charles Carr, Randy (Ken) Carr, Rhonda (David) Orr, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Gloria was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her love for life, her unwavering faith, and her devotion to family and friends will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
