In Memory

Linda Pendleton - Class Of 1963

OBITUARY FROM NW INDIANA TIMES WEBSITE:

Linda Diane Pendleton

10/11/1945 - 07/20/2023

Airline Transport Pilot, Gold Seal Certified Flight Instructor, FAA Designated Pilot Examiner, Author of "Flying Jets", Author of Multiple Flight Training Articles . . .

Linda died on July 20th late in the evening at St. Luke's Hospital in northwest Denver from cardiac arrest. She had been in several rehab and medical care facilities for the past ten years. Her best friend, Pamela Griffen and King Schools employee, was by her side. There are no surviving relatives and no memorial services are planned.

Linda had been a professional pilot and flight instructor for nearly 40 years flying freight, U.S. Mail, corporate, commuter and on demand charter. She also worked for Flight Safety International, King Schools, Eclipse Aviation and Boeing-Jeppesen in a flight training capacity. Her book, FLYING JETS, is a comprehensive discussion of transitioning from a reciprocating engine, propeller-driven general aviation aircraft to a swept-wing, turbojet aircraft with operation in the flight levels. This book is unique in its content and remains available on line. Those who knew her acknowledge that she was able to hold her own when in the company of a predominately male group of pilots. And, she inspired a generation of female aviators.

Fifty four years ago on July 20th, Neil Armstrong stepped out of the Apollo 11 Lunar Module and onto the moon. He was Linda's hero but we would like to think that right now Linda is sitting across the Rainbow Bridge with kitties in her lap debriefing his landing.

""There are no surviving relatives" is incorrect.  Linda's brother Jerry is alive and well living with his family at his home in Georgia.
