Francine Shreffler, nee Schasberger (Heck), 88, was born in Michigan, on October 23, 1936, to Arthur Schasberger and Martha (Vogt) Schasberger-Gillespie. A lifelong resident of the region, she loved to square dance and ballroom dance and regularly attended the local concert series as well held season tickets to the NWI Symphony. She was an avid traveler both in the states and abroad who loved playing pinochle and going to the Bonner Senior Center. While raising a family of four she attended IUN and obtained a bachelors degree and went on to get her master's in library science and became the director of the Lowell Public Library System until she retired.
She is survived by her son, Steve (Kathy) Heck, daughter Robin (Steve Livingston) Heck, daughter, Vicky (Chuck) Johnson, sister, Lora Herbach, and brother, Tom Gillespie. She has 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Francine was proceeded in death by her parents, sisters, Barbara Cook and Terry Bradford, brother, Gary Schasberger, son, David Heck, granddaughter, Mallory Stone, and two great-great grandchildren, Oliver, and Juliet Hyatt. She adored her grandchildren, was very independent and also very generous. She was deeply loved and cherished by her family and friends and will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be at the Edmonds and Evans Funeral Home at 6941 Central Ave in Portage, IN, on January 4th, 2025, from 10:00 am -12:00pm, with funeral service at 12:00 pm and burial to follow at McCool Cemetery.
