Charles Schmelter - Class Of 1960

OBITUARY FROM NW INDIANA TIMES, SEPTEMBER 17, 2008

Charles L. "Chuck" Schmelter, age 65, of Hobart, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at Chicagoland Christian Village in Crown Point. Chuck was a Hobart resident since 1988 and a former longtime resident of Long Island, New York. He was a Hobart High School graduate of 1960. Chuck then graduated from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana where he excelled playing football and obtained his degree is business and also his M.B.A.

Chuck is survived by his large and loving family, including his two sons: John and Joseph Schmelter, both of Buffalo, New York; daughter, Suzanne (Wayne) Smith of Long Island, NY; two granddaughters: Savannah and Sierra Smith; three sisters: Janet (John) Rigoni of Waukegan, IL, Carol (John) Shingler of Hobart and the Honorable, former Mayor Linda (George) Buzinec of Hobart. He was preceded in death by his parents: Leonard and Ann Schmelter.

In Chuck's memory, memorials are preferred to either The American Heart Association or Alzheimers's Association. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 19, 2008 starting with 12:30 p.m. prayers at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart; and then proceeding to St. Bridget Catholic Church for a 1:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Rev. Dominic V. Bertino celebrating the Mass.
