Dorythe Grace Earl
Age 86, of Hobart passed away Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Valparaiso Care and Rehabilitation. She was born on December 5, 1938, in Gary, Indiana, the daughter of the late William and Mable (nee Freeman) Blaney. Dorythe, who graduated from Hobart High School in 1956, married her late husband Donald Earl on September 19, 1964. Dorythe was a loyal parishioner at Saint Bridget’s Catholic Church in Hobart. She loved being a homemaker and taking care of her family.She spent thirty years volunteering with Meals on Wheels. Her professional experience included a stint as a census worker in the 1980s. Her reputation for being frugal was well deserved, and she taught her children the value of completing tasks. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
She is survived by her son, John (Loretta) Earl of Valparaiso; daughter, Cynthia Saylor of Hobart; four grandchildren, Christopher Campbell, Amanda Veatch, Brayden Saylor and Ryan Saylor; great grandchildren, Skyler and Gabriella plus five more; three great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Francie Blaney of Valparaiso and Linda Elieff of Lady Lake, Florida and many other loving family members and friends.
Dorythe was preceded in death by her husband, Donald G. Earl; two sons, Donald Earl and James Earl; her father, William Blaney; mother, Mable Blaney.
In lieu of flowers donations to St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in memory of Dorythe would be appreciated.
Mass of Christian burial for Dorythe will be held Friday, January 10, 2025 beginning with 9:30 am prayers at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana 46342 then processing to St. Bridget’s Catholic Church 107 Main Street, Hobart, Indiana 46342 for a 10:00 am Mass with Rev. Dominic V. Bertino officiating. The burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 9, 2025, from 2:00-8:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.
