Howard T. Eastwood - Class Of 1956 VIEW PROFILE

OBITUARY FROM BURNS FUNERAL HOME WEBSITE:

Howard Tilden Eastwood, beloved artist, husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at the age of 85, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Hobart, Indiana to Helen (Ritter) and Howard Eastwood Sr., Howard grew up with strong family connections and a deep love for the natural beauty of Hobart and the surrounding Calumet region.

Howard was a skilled union carpenter. He was also an accomplished artist known for his beautiful landscape paintings of Hobart, Lake Michigan, the Indiana Dunes, the surrounding countryside, and Florida, as well as many portraits of beloved family members and even pets. Howard taught courses at the Hobart Art League, and his impressionist-inspired works were showcased in numerous public places, including banks, libraries, and galleries, earning him recognition and admiration from the art community. In addition to his painterly talents, Howard was a skilled woodworker, drawer, and photographer. His creativity and passion for art extended beyond his family, as he mentored and inspired his children, grandchildren, and other youth. His love for music, especially rock and rhythm and blues, was shared with his children and grandchildren. Many fond memories were made during fishing trips to the Great Lakes with his grandchildren, as well.

Howard’s greatest enjoyment came from the time he spent with his wife of nearly 67 years, Kay. She was the love of his life. They were married on October 5th, 1956, and raised four children together. Their passions were taking long drives in the countryside, taking photographs during their road trips to Florida in retirement, and spending cherished time together with their friends, children, and family.

Howard was a calm and good-natured man, treating everyone with dignity. Everyone he knew celebrated his wit, well-timed humor, and kind heart. He was a voice of moderation and steadiness among his friends and a loving, patient, and caring presence within his family. Overcoming life’s challenges including a cancer diagnosis with determination and grace, Howard remained ever-optimistic and active and dedicated to living a life full of love, laughter, and art. Our family is so grateful for his granddaughter, Wendy Eastwood, who was his unfailing advocate and caregiver in his final days.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, his son Howard Lawrence Eastwood, his grand-daughter Katie Ann Thyen, his grandson Mark David Eastwood, and his brother Bob Eastwood. Howard is survived by his loving wife, Kay Eastwood; his children, Keith Eastwood, Linda (Charles) Kuntz, and Stacy (Rick) Thyen; his siblings Kyle Eastwood, Jennifer (Jerry) Davis, Rebecca (Rick) Demo, Lori Conn, and sister-in-law, Connie Eastwood; his grandchildren Paula (Casey) Holleman, Charles (Elisabeth) Kuntz, Trisha (Derek) Yoder, Wendy Eastwood, Samuel Thyen, and Alex Thyen; great-grandchildren Michael, Elizabeth (Blayne), Maxwell, Thomas, Alyssa, Jacob, Adalynn, Emily, Olivia, Megan, and John-Luc; and beloved nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and will be remembered for his artistic legacy, warm personality, and the positive impact he had on so many lives.

A celebration of Howard's life will be held at Burns Funeral Home in Hobart, Indiana, on Saturday, April 22, 2023, with a memorial visitation from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and a memorial service from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM CDT.
