OBITUARY FROM POST-TRIBUNE, JANUARY 8, 2013:

Broda, Phyllis (nee Gibson) Age 75 of Valparaiso and formerly of Hobart, passed away January 3, 2013. She was a graduate of Hobart High School, Class of 1956 and served in the US Navy as a Photographer Third class. She worked for the Hobart Township School System for nearly 20 years, and held several other jobs before retiring. Phyllis' biggest passion was for animals. She loved volunteering at the Animal Shelter and finding happy homes for loving pets. She and her husband loved their small farm where they raised, rode and boarded horses. Phyllis had a kind and loving soul, generous heart and always gave to others.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Frank and daughter, Monica Fraher. She is survived by her son, Mark Broda and daughter, Michele Broda (Greg Bowman) of Hobart; sisters, Rosemary Mahsur and Betty Maldonado; 4 grandchildren, Sabrina Broda, Kyle (Misty) Fraher of NC, Chad (Casey) Blankman and Brandy Peterson; 4 great-grandchildren and 2 very special nieces, Karla (Dennis) Thomason and Stacy (Dave) Garrett.

Funeral Service will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at Burns Funeral Home, 701 E. 7th St., Hobart, IN. Friends may visit with Phyllis' family on Wednesday from 2 p.m. to time of service. Pastor Tom Shanahan officiating.www.burnsuneral.com.
