
OBITUARY FROM SHIRLEY BROTHERS (INDIANAPOLIS, IN) FUNERAL HOME WEBSITE:
Patricia Malmquist-Sigman, 88, of Indianapolis, passed away August 23, 2026. She was born March 17, 1938 in Hobart, Indiana to the late Anton and Thelma (Burris) Malmquist. Patricia attended Immanuel Lutheran Grade School, graduated from Hobart High School, and attended Indiana University. She was a medical transcriptionist for IU Health Bloomington Hospital, a secretary in the Sociology Department at IU Northwest, and finally an editor for the Anthropology Journal at IU Bloomington from 1970-2000.
Patricia was a member of the First Christian Church of Disciples of Christ, Bargersville, since 1999. She loved cooking and reading, music, and owned a 1966 Mustang she named “Horace”. Patricia adored her parents and was proud to have served under the first African American Mayor of Gary, Indiana, Richard Gordon Hatcher.
Patricia is survived by her children, Gregory LaBarr (Debbie), Mark LaBarr, Kevin LaBarr (Cora) and Monique LaBarr; brother, Ernest Malmquist; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Anton Malmquist, Jr., Robert Malmquist, Terry Malmquist; and sister, Minnie Clifton.
A Celebration of Patricia’s Life will be held Saturday, September 26, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Indian Lake Country Club, 10502 East 75th Street, Indianapolis.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church of Disciples of Christ, 101 East Street, Bargersville, IN 46106. Final arrangements and care are entrusted to Shirley Brothers Fishers-Castleton Chapel.
