Edward (Ed) Marvin - Class Of 1952

Senior Master Sergeant Edward Allen Marvin United States Air Force Retired, 91, affectionately known as “Mr. Ed” went to be with his Lord on November 27, 2025.

Mr. Ed was born June 9, 1934, in Gary, Indiana. He was the son of the late Harold D. and Margaretta Parsons Marvin. He graduated from Hobart High School in 1952. He worked for Northern Indiana Public Service Co, until joining the United States Air Force in September 1953. While serving in the USAF in Radar Maintenance, he was stationed and traveled to many destinations including Italy; Iran; New York; Mississippi; Iceland; France; Kentucky; Germany; Belgium; Alabama: Alaska: Saudi Arabia and Turkey. He had multiple duty stations with his family by his side. He also served in the era of the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

Throughout his distinguished military career, Edward embraced the opportunities and challenges of each new assignment, forging lasting friendships and collecting memories that enriched his life and those around him. His unwavering commitment to duty, coupled with a steadfast devotion to his loved ones, set an enduring example for all who knew him.

After faithfully serving his country for 20 years, he retired from the USAF, October 1973 and relocated to Kenton, TN. He then re-entered the workforce at the former Goodyear Tire plant in Union City, TN, as an Instrument Lab Technician-Electrician . He retired after 23 years of service.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a Scout Master with the Boy Scouts of America for 26 years. Edward was rewarded seeing many young men become Eagle Scouts under his leadership in Schuylerville, New York, and Kenton, Tennessee, three of which are his sons. He received the District Award Merit for adult leadership, a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow, and the Silver Beaver Award.

He was a Mason for over 65 years. During such times he held several positions in the Tennessee Order of the Eastern Star, the former Kenton Lions Club, and the Mason Hall Masonic Lodge and the Kenton VFW.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kenton, where he served as a choir member and Sunday School Teacher.

Edward Marvin married Mary Ellen Hogue, the daughter of the late Floyd Preston and Mary Mae Howell Hogue of Clarksville, Illinois on October 8, 1954.

He is survived by his loving wife Mary Ellen, of 71 years of marriage; children: Kenneth (Pamela) Marvin of Dyer, TN; Peggy (Darrell) Hoffman of Bartlett, TN; Dale (Cara) Marvin of Kenton, TN; Danny (Leanne) Marvin of Clarksville, TN; 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; one brother, Ernie (Jackie) Marvin of La-Porte, Indiana; one sister Marjory (Ken) Baum of Dayton, Ohio; one sister in law, Rosanna Woller of Champagne, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Linda Butler, brother Richard Marvin, and daughter Linda Carson.

Visitation with the family and friends will be Sunday, November 30. 2025, 1:00-2:30 PM with the service beginning at 2:30 PM at the First Baptist Church Kenton, TN.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations given to the Shoebox Ministry of First Baptist Church of Kenton, St. Jude, or the Gideon Bible Ministry.
