Walter (Walt) Alexander - Class Of 1958

Walter F. Alexander, of Valparaiso, died Monday, May 6, 2002 at home. He was 61.

He was born October 9, 1940 in Hobart, Ind. the son of the late Walter and Kathleen (Nealon) Alexander.

On Sept. 19, 1964 at St. Paul Catholic Church, he married Mary Ellen Gast, who survives.

He is also survived by three children, Shawn (David) Armstrong of New Buffalo, Mich., Jessica (Joe) Novak of Geneva, Ill., Matthew Alexander of Valparaiso; six grandchildren, Calli, Moira, Lian Armstrong, Olivia, Mary Clare and Joey Novak; two brothers, Edward (Myrna) Alexander of Leesburg, Fla. and Ralph (Melissa) Alexander of Roseburg, Mo.; two sisters, Kay (George) Ford of Hobart and Irene (Bernard) Balog of Hobart; many loving nieces and nephews.

He loved the Indiana Dunes sunrise to sunset. He was a 37 year employee of Northern Indiana Public Service Co., retired in 1996. He was an Army Veteran, 1964-1966, Hobart High School Graduate, class of 1958; member of St. Elizabeth Seton Church, Sundowners Club, Volunteer at Spring Valley Shelter, Valparaiso, and Meals on Wheels, Kouts.

Funeral Mass, Msgr. William Martin officiating, is scheduled at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 9 at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 509 West Division Rd., Valparaiso. Cremation will be at Calvary Crematory, Portage.

Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday with wake service at 4 p.m. at Dykes Funeral Home, 2305 N. Campbell St., Valparaiso.
