DECEMBER 19, 1940 – MARCH 7, 2023

William Lewis Gentz, 82, passed into the arms of God and his angels March 7, 2023. Bill lived a long, fruitful life, with few regrets and plenty of memories to sustain his surviving friends & family.

Bill was the embodiment of the self-made man. He worked his way up the ladder. He eventually attained senior and then executive level positions in national insurance firms like Great American, Marsh & McLennon, Zenith National, and Superior National Insurance Group. Bill was one of the most respected professionals in the insurance industry. A man of integrity & honor, tenacious, dependable, compassionate, funny are all words used to describe him by former colleagues.

A native of Michigan, Bill spent most of his adult life in Southern California. Married for 62 years to his beloved wife, he was also the quintessential girl’s dad. A father of 2 daughters, his legacy to them includes appreciation of history, a love of showtunes and teaching all about the LA Rams & football. His love and devotion to his family will carry them through these sad days.

Bill had a wonderful sense of humor and a penchant for making others feel comfortable in his company. Contractors would stay well after their work was done, just to talk with him. Receptionists & nurses often greeted him with hugs & smiles. His friends will never forget that infectious laugh and warm, caring nature.

Bill is survived by wife Corina, daughters Debra Gentz and Patricia Gentz-Smith, grandchildren Matthew & Adrianna Urmersbach, and beloved extended family. Services will be held on Mar 22 at 10am at St. Mel Catholic Church in Woodland Hills. Celebration of Life will take place Apr 22 at Braemar Country Club in Tarzana. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Bill’s memory to Tunnel To Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306.
