In Memory

David (Dave) Haynes - Class Of 1958

OBITUARY INFORMATION FROM ALLEN MEMORIAL (ENDICOTT, NY) WEBSITE:

David Allen Haynes of Endicott, NY, passed away unexpectedly on April 8 at the age of 77. Dave was born in Gary, IN, and was raised in nearby Hobart. He graduated from Wheaton College and obtained a Masters degree in mathematics from Purdue University. After college, he moved to Endicott where he began a 37 year career at IBM working as a computer programmer. He met his wife, Shirley, at IBM, and they married in 1968 and raised a family. Math and computers were two of Dave’s passions, but trains were another. He worked for the EJ&E Railway as a tower operator while attending school, and throughout his life, Dave could often be found trackside watching and photographing trains. In recent years he spent much of his time volunteering with the Susquehanna Valley Railway Historical Society, working extensively on their website and newsletter. Dave will be remembered as a kind and compassionate man, with seemingly infinite patience. He had a witty sense of humor, and always thought of his family and others before himself.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Marion Haynes; brother, Richard Haynes; and sister-in-law, Diane Clapham. Dave is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Shirley (Vincenec) Haynes; sons Scott Haynes of Raleigh, NC, and John (Katherine) Haynes of Fort Collins, CO; very special grandson, Austin Haynes of Raleigh, NC; sisters Carolyn Raelson of North Port, FL, and Connie (Walter) Kubica of Chicago, IL; sister-in-law Barbara (Jack) Bailey of Endicott, NY; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, April 19th at 2 pm from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main St., Endicott, with the Reverend David C. Seaver, Chaplin at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton officiating. Burial will be in Riverhurst Cemetery, Endicott. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Wednesday from 12 pm until service time at 2 pm. Donations in Dave’s memory may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or the Susquehanna Valley Railway Historical Society.
