OBITUARY FROM THE NW INDIANA TIMES:
 
Maximillion O. "Chess" Kozyra, 61, of Wheatfield, IN, passed away at 1:52 p.m. on March 16, 2001 at Jasper County Hospital, Rensselaer, IN. Born June 11, 1939 in Gary, IN, to Maximillion Kozyra, Sr. and Delores (Mills) Kozyra.
 
Survived by sons: Daniel Bush of Lafayette, IN, Maximillion "Gene" (Lisa) Kozyra of Rensselaer, IN, Russell (Angie) Kozyra of Valparaiso, IN and David (Shannon) Kozyra of Brownsburg, IN, father: Maximillion Kozyra Sr. of Hobart, IN; brothers: Sam Kozyra and Rodney (Burlene) Kozyra of Hobart, IN; sisters, Nancy (Biff) Baker of Hobart, IN, Vickie (Bill) Filter of Crown Point, IN and Cari (Gene) Sasak of Arkansas; and three grandchildren. Preceded in death by his mother, Delores Kozyra.
 
Visitation at the Jackson Funeral Chapel, 250 No. McKinley, Rensselaer, IN, on Monday from 3 to 8 p.m. (CST). Masonic Lodge service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday. Services Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. (CST), at the Jackson Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer, Heart or Diabetes Associations.
 
Max had been a resident of Wheatfield for 2 years, moving there from Rensselaer where he had lived since 1970. He attended the Hobart Schools, graduating in 1957. He was employed with NIPSCO for 36 years. Memberships include the St. Luke's Church of San Pierre and the Masonic Lodge F.&A.M. #125 of Rensselaer.
