Jennie Speer Metz, 84, of St. Augustine, Florida, died of natural causes on August 19, 2024.
She was born in Bicknell, Indiana to Ferrel and Lucille Speer. She lived her childhood years in Hobart, IN. Jennie met her future husband Clyde Raymond Metz in junior high and they married in April 1961.
Jennie earned a bachelor's degree from DePauw University and a master’s degree in education from Indiana University. She was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority. She taught in the Brazil, Spencer, and Gosport schools.
Jennie and Clyde raised their family in Indianapolis, IN and Mt. Pleasant, SC. She spent the last years of her life surrounded by loving family in St Augustine, FL. Jennie was an active member of the United Methodist Church. She was active in Women’s Circles, library committees, choir, and was church organist for a few years. She was talented in piano playing, knitting and card playing. She did volunteer work with Goodwill and worked as a typist, transcribing the textbooks her husband authored. She also worked with H&R Block as an income tax preparer.
She is survived by her children, Curtis (Sharon) Metz and Shelley (Timmothy) Metz; her grandchildren, Alexis, Cameron, Sydney and Claire. She is also survived by her brother Philip Speer and his children, Kathryn and Kevin (Kimberly) and their children, Stephanie, Eric and Cole.
Jennie is predeceased by her husband Clyde Metz, their daughter, Lianne Debra Metz, and Sister-in-Law, Marcia Speer.
Funeral services will be private.
