Scott Franzwa - Class Of 1975

OBITUARY FROM THE NORTHWEST INDIANA TIMES, JANUARY 25, 2009

Scott Thomas Franzwa passed away on December 29, 2008 after a courageous year long battle with cancer. Scott was born in Hobart, IN on December 6, 1956 to Frederick and Marjorie Franzwa. He lived the first 28 years of his life in Indiana, graduating from Hobart Senior High School in 1975. He attended Indiana State University as a music major, where his principal instrument was trombone. After college, Scott worked for several years at U.S. Steel in Gary, IN. He earned the title of Millwright, and worked until a down turn in the steel industry resulted in his layoff. Scott then moved to Reno, NV in 1984 to work for General Motors. He was a member of the United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 2162 until his passing. Scott married Kathleen Forney in 1986 and had two sons: Alex and Justin. He was divorced in 1999, but shared parenting and was a devoted father and mentor to his sons. His greatest joy was spending time with his boys and just having fun together. Scott loved adventure and the outdoors. In his younger years, he loved to fly (till he almost crashed) and ski (till his knees wouldn't take it anymore). He loved music and embraced the newest technology to enhance his listening, be it the best speakers in his Z28 (in his younger years) or the best headphones for flights home to his family in Hobart (later years). Scott will always be remembered as the kind of person who would go out of his way to help any friend or family member. He was generous and kind with a crazy "wheezy" laugh that could get a whole room laughing.

Scott was preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie (Evans) Franzwa; and niece, Lindsey Franzwa. He is survived by his two sons: Alex Scott Franzwa and Justin Daniel Franzwa of Sparks, NV; father, Frederick Ashton Franzwa of Rochester, NY; three brothers, Frederick (Melinda) Franz- wa of Rochester, NY, Richard (Pam) Franzwa of Encinitas, CA and David (Pamm) Franzwa of Bothell, WA; nieces and nephews Betsy (Mike) Yohe, Emily Franzwa, Frederick (Kathleen) Franzwa, Abby Franzwa, Lily Franzwa and Haley Franzwa.

Scott was buried at Mountain View Cemetery in Reno, NV on January 9, 2009. His memorial and Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 935 Mercedes Dr., Sparks, NV.
