James Alexander - Class Of 1945

OBITUARY FROM THE NW INDIANA TIMES, NOVEMBER 18, 2008

James M. Alexander, Sr., age 82 of Hobart passed away Monday, November 17, 2008. He was born on August 25, 1926 in Gary, IN to the late John M. and Margaret Alexander. He was a lifelong area resident graduating from Hobart High School in 1945. He also graduated from Purdue University. He then went on to serve his country in World War II in the Phillipines. He worked for 32 years at U.S. Steel as a Foreman. He was one of the founders of the Hobart Pool and was very active in the Hobart YMCA and the Hobart Little League. He was a member of the Phi Delts, Hobart Jaycees, and the First United Methodist Church in Hobart.

James is survived by four children: Keith J. (Nancy) Alexander of Madison, IN, Janice M. (Bob) Kemp of Mount Pleasant, SC, James M. (Debra) Alexander, Jr. of Valparaiso, IN, Scott J. (Eva) Alexander of Coppell, TX; six grandchildren: Amanda Kemp, Brandon, Shannon, Kacey, Julie, and Stephanie Alexander; one step grandchild, Ashley Tape-Fleming. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Lorraine H. Alexander.

Funeral services are Friday, November 21, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart. Cremation will follow. Visitation is Thursday, November 20, 2008 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel. Call (219) 942-2109 or online at www.Reesfuneralhomes.com
