With profound sadness we announce the passing of Dan L Bateman, age 65, of Hobart, Indiana.

Dan was born on June 15, 1956 in Gary, Indiana to Ivan L. and Helen R. Bateman.  He graduated from Hobart High School in 1975.

Dan worked at Sears Robuck & Co. as an auto mechanic for many years, and was a blackjack dealer at Trump casino, before succumbing to complications from Multiple Sclerosis.  However, he never let this stop him from learning. He graduated with honors from IVY Tech State College in 2001 with a Bachelor’s degree in computer science.

He leaves with cherished memories two brothers Dale Bateman; Lester Dean (Laura) Bateman of Hobart, IN.; and two sisters Patricia (Jerry) Carr of Portage, IN., and Lorri (Tom) Philbin of Cape Coral, Fl., and many nieces and nephews that he loved immensely.  Dan was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Daryl L. Bateman, and great nephew Alexander Corbeille.

Dan was a man of few words, and had a passionate love affair with the simple things in life, like tinkering in the garage, yard work, early morning walks, decorating for holidays and always lending a helping hand to his neighbors.

His family rarely heard him say “I love you” or give them a hug, but they all knew he loved them because he was always available to help them in every way.

Services for Dan will take place Monday, November 15, 2021 at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, IN. with Rev. Don Good officiating.  Visitation will begin at 11am, followed by funeral services at 1pm.
