John F. Allen, 82 of Valparaiso, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 13, 2018. He was born July 3, 1935 in Gary to Harry and Elizabeth (Haviland) Allen. John worked as an operating engineer and heavy equipment mechanic for his career. He enjoyed hot rods in his younger days, and more recently fishing. John will be remembered by his family as a thoughtful and caring man with a good sense of humor, who was one of a kind. On March 14, 1952 in Mississippi, John married Bonnie Welch, who preceded him in death in 2002. He is survived by their children: Gregory (Donna) Allen of Valparaiso, Tom (Jan) Allen of DeMotte, Carri (Jr.) Gross of Valparaiso; 12 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, and special caregiver, Tina Benkovich. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Harry Dean Allen, and brother, Thomas Allen.
