Judith (Judy) Johnston (Porter) - Class Of 1953

OBITUARY FROM BURNS FUNERAL HOME WEBSITE:

Judith “Judy” Porter passed away peacefully on May 23, 2026, at the age of 91. She was born July 26, 1934, in Hobart, Indiana, to William Donald and Violet (Ellenberger) Johnston. She lived in Northwest Indiana for most of her life and spent fond childhood years in Azalea, Oregon.

Judy was a loving daughter, granddaughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, great aunt, cousin, and friend. She married Louis “Lee” Porter on October 17, 1953, and they spent 58 wonderful years together until his passing on April 25, 2011.

Judy was a dedicated caretaker who cherished time with the people she loved. She also took great joy in seeing her garden flourish, birdwatching, reading, listening to music, and making her favorite recipes. She was a member of Deep River Church of Christ.

She is survived by her three children Jeff Porter, Amy Luedtke (husband Jim), and Randy Porter (wife Samantha); her four grandchildren Jeff Barrett, Stacy Porter (husband Mike Brath), Carolyn Tackett, and Kyle Porter (partner Lindsey Brooks), along with eight additional grandchildren with whom she was blessed through marriage; and great-grandson Kane Porter, along with eight beloved great-grandchildren who joined Judy’s family through marriage.

She is also survived by her sister Beth Landgrebe (husband George) and preceded in death by her sisters Donna Stanley (husband Paul) and MaryLou Doyen (husband Joseph).

The family thanks Judy’s nurses, aides, and hospice team for their compassion and care.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to either VNA Hospice of Northwest Indiana or Deep River Church of Christ would be appreciated.

Visitation will be on Friday, May 29, 2026, 3:00-7:00 pm at Burns Funeral Home, 701 E. 7th St, Hobart, IN, 46342. A celebration of life will be held at the same location on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 10:00 am, with Rev. Thomas Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso.
