James E. Northey, Sr. - Class Of 1960

OBITUARY FROM NW INDIANA TIMES, NOVEMBER 3, 2009

James E. Northey, Sr., age 67, passed away at home in his beloved Hobart after fighting a long battle with ALS on Sunday, November 1, 2009. Jim was born July 20, 1942 to Edwin and Mary E. (nee Hammond) Northey. He attended Hobart High School and was a member of the Class of 1960. Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Viet Nam War aboard the USS Hancock. He retired from US Steel as a Supervisor of Fab Shop C in 1996 with over 30 years of service. He was a life member of Kostbade Fowble VFW Post 5365 and was a member of Lake Station American Legion Post 100 and Hobart American Legion Post 54.

Jim is survived by his partner, Susie Shannon; two children: James E. (Sonia) Northey, Jr. of Houghton, MI and Tammi (Michael) Moore of Wanatah, IN; five grandchildren: Mark, Timothy and Jayson Moore and Jacob and Madeline Northey; seven great grandchildren; two sisters: Nancy (Ron) Sadelack, Hobart IN; and Bonnie Morris of Demotte IN; three brothers: Ron Northey of Hobart, IN; Robert (Tammy) Hawkins of Wheatfield, IN and Roy (Cheryl) Hawkins of LaCross, IN; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents: Edwin Northey and Mary Hammond; two sisters: Mary Northey and Ella Born; and brother-in-law, John Morris.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to the ALS Foundation. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart, IN. Cremation will follow. A Joint VFW and American Legion service will be held Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 3, 2009, from 2:00-5:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, (219) 942-2109 or visit us online at: www.reesfuneralhomes.com
