Harvey Ferman - Class Of 1942

OBITUARY FROM SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, DECEMBER 13, 2012:

On December 7, 2012, Colonel Harvey Ronald Ferman passed away with his family by his side. He died from complications with pneumonia. Harvey was born in Chicago on December 15, 1924. He would have been 88 years old on Saturday. He married Faye Goodrich in 1946. She passed away in 1996. Harvey remarried Betty Fowler in 1997.

As a result of both marriages, he is survived by his wife, two sons, two daughters, one daughter-in-law, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Harvey had many great accomplishments in his life time. After graduating from Hobart High School, he entered the United States army. He was involved with World War II as a combat engineer. Later, he enlisted in the Army National Guard and the California Military Reserves. He rose through the ranks to become a Colonel. He received many medals, citations, and honors. He gave more than 50 years of his life to his country. In civilian life, Colonel Ferman was employed by Gary Transit as General Superintendent, Santa Monica Municipal Bus Lines as Maintenance Superintendent, and San Mateo County Transit District as Director of Transit Operations. He attended several different colleges and universities to receive his doctorate of Philosophy in Psychology. He touched everyone's life in countless ways and will be sorely missed. He was admired, loved, and respected by friends and family.

He will have a full military funeral with honors at the First Presbyterian Church in Oceanside on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at 11 a.m. There will be a viewing the day before on December 17, 2012 at the same location between 4 and 8 p.m. His final resting place will be at the Riverside National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting a donation be made, in his name, to the www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
