OBITUARY FROM POST-TRIBUNE, MARCH 4, 2010

Madge M. Smith, age 87, of Hobart passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2010. Madge was born on August 13, 1922 in Gary to Charles and Madge (nee Dillon) Dockter who preceded her in death. Madge was a Hobart resident most of her life and was a Hobart High School graduate class of 1940. She was a member of Michigan Ave. Methodist Church of Hobart. Madge married Richard T. Smith in Hobart on March 21, 1944. Madge was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, Richard of 65 years; son, Charles (Jean) Smith of Valparaiso; 2 grandchildren, Michael (Norma) Smith of Valparaiso and Megan (John) Simmons of Valparaiso; four great-grandchildren, Alexis, Carli, Ian, and Grace. Preceded in death by daughter, Patricia Vendl; brother, Harry Dockter; 2 sisters, Joan Randolph and Almira Dockter.

In lieu of flower memorials may be given to V.N.A. Hospice of Valparaiso. Funeral Service for Madge will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Rd. Hobart with Rev. Michael Cover officiating. Cremation will follow. A Visitation will be on Saturday, March 6, 2010 from 12 Noon until 3:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart.
