Douglas "Coach" James - Class Of 1961

OBITUARY FROM CHICAGO TRIBUNE, APRIL 14, 2015:

A. Douglas James "Coach", age 71 of Hobart, passed away April 12, 2015. Doug was a graduate of Hobart High School, class of 1961. He received his Bachelor's degree in education from Indiana State in 1965 and his Master's in education from Purdue in 1984. He taught in the Hobart School System for 34 years. After leaving Hobart Doug was the Athletic Director at Hanover Central for 3 years. He was also a former employee of ISM. Doug's passion was sports and his children. He was instrumental in creating and playing in the Hobart Softball Leagues. He also spent many years officiating sports at various competitive levels. He was an official for the IHSAA and NCAA and a member of the National Education Association. Doug was a very talented organ and piano player and he gave lessons at the Harmony House in Hobart.

Doug was preceded in death by his father, George, mother, Doris (nee Grey), granddaughter, Ally and numerous aunts and uncles. He is survived by his spouse, Zagorka "Corky"; children - Michael (Gayle), Adam (Ginny), Cristina (John) Bullington; grandchildren - Robert, Taylor, Emma and Lyla; good friends, Linda and George Buzinec and special cousin, Jim Hartman; step grandchildren, Morgan and Stephanie.

Funeral service Sunday, April 19, 2015 at 7 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 701 E. 7th St., Hobart. Friends are invited to visit with Doug's family on Sunday from 2 p.m. until the time of service. Contributions may be made to the Lupus Foundation. www.burnsfuneral.com.
