OBITUARY FROM DES MOINES (IOWA)  REGISTER, MAY 14, 2013:

Kathleen M. Davis, 69, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2013 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

A celebration of her life will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at Hamilton's on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, with a time to share memories at 5:30 p.m.

Kathy was born December 4, 1943, in Elgin, Illinois, to Clare and George Miko. She earned a scholarship and received her RN Degree from Michael Reese Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago. On May 8, 1965, Kathy married the love of her life, Wayne. Throughout her life, Kathy remained highly active in her community in various leadership positions, board seats, and numerous other philanthropic endeavors. She served on the ChildServe Board of Directors as well as the Polk County Health Services Board of Directors. She belonged to Junior League of Des Moines; was President of the PTO at Ruby VanMeter for ten years; was President of the Deer Creek Home Owners Association for 20 years; belonged to P.E.O.; the Parent/Education Connection for Des Moines Public Schools; and the Bus Barn Book Club. Above all, she was a wonderful homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

Kathy is survived by her loving husband, Wayne; her daughter, Nancy (Max) Justicz; her son, Jeff Davis; her grandchildren: Alexander, James, and Hannah Justicz; and her brothers and sisters: Laurie, Kirk, Maggie, Marianne, Maureen, and John. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Laurie; and her brother, Richard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, or Strands of Strength (www.strandsofstrength.com) in loving memory of Kathy.
