Obituary for Raymond "Ray" Rodriguez
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dad and papa, Raymond Rodriguez, age 82, of Porter, IN, formerly of Hobart, IN, on June 25, 2025.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Rosa Rodriguez; brothers, Frank and Pete Rodriguez and niece, Diana Alvarez Reynolds.
Ray is survived by his wife and constant companion of 59 years, Anita; daughter, Toni (Ronnie) Maddox of London, England; Raeann (Tom) Trakas of Porter, IN; Raymond Rodriguez of Miller Beach, IN. He was Papa to Abby & Xanthe Maddox; Zoe & Theo Trakas; and Raymond, Rocco, & Willow Rodriguez; Nephews, Frank (Jackie) Rodriguez of Nixa, MO, Cesar (Duncan) Alvarez of Sacramento, CA & Brian Sargent of Valparaiso, IN; great-nephew, Carson Reynolds of Tampa, FL, Special friends, Mike & Linda Roque of Portage, IN. Ray and Mike have been friends for over 75 years.
He was a graduate of Hobart High School Class of 1961 and retired as a proud member of the Pipefitters Local 597. Ray served in the United States Marine Corp. Reserves and was a member of the Spanish Society. An avid Brickie football fan during their heyday, he lost his voice after every game at the Brickie Bowl.
Ray was well known for his infectious smile, hearty laugh, and big hugs. He loved being surrounded by his family and friends. Ray was the go-to guy to fix anything and would help anyone. Always happy to share a cold beverage or tell a story that may or may not have been embellished. Naturally funny, Ray had a way of making people laugh and feel at ease, no matter the situation. Ray aka Papa was fiercely proud of his grandkids and would brag to anyone that would listen.
Visitation will be on Monday, June 30, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM with a time of sharing to follow at Burns Funeral Home & Crematory, 701 East 7th Street Hobart, Indiana 46342. with the burial taking place at Calumet Park Cemetery, 2305 W 73rd Ave, Merrillville, IN.
