OBITUARY FROM NW INDIANA TIMES:

Frank Carlos Abila, 37, of Lake Station, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2001. He was a lifelong area resident and was employed as a scale technician for Antibus Scales and Systems. A member of Protection of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church. He earned a Bachelors degree from Purdue University in West Lafayette in 1985, and was a graduate of Hobart School, class of 1981. Frank was always very dedicated to his family.

He is survived by his wife of eight years, Michelle (nee Hughes); four daughters: Natalie, Ashley, Rachel and Allison, all at home; parents, Charlie and Connie Abila of Hobart; three sisters, Debbie (David) Husek of Hobart, Lisa (Kurt) Crizer of Westville and Laurie (Jeff) Edmond of Hobart; in-laws, Ron and Jan Hughes of Miller; aunts: Lucy (Gene) Ward of Merrillville, Dolores Alvarado of Portage and Shirley Avila of Hobart; great-uncle and aunt, "Tio" Roberto and "Tia" Maria Montano of Portage; sister-in-law, Lara (Scott) Richards of Hobart; also many cousins, nieces, nephews, Kumovi, co-workers and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2001, 10 a.m., DIRECTLY at Protection of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church, 8600 Grand Blvd., Merrillville (one mile south of Rt 30) with Father Peter Bodnar officiating. Interment Calvary Cemetery, Portage. Arrangements were completed by the Savich & Semplinski Funeral Directors. Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, corner of 101st and Broadway, Merrillville/Crown Point. A Panahida Service will be offered at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Frank may also be viewed at the church on Saturday from 9:30 A.M. until time of services. Memorials may be given to the Frank C. Abila Memorial Fund.
