It is with profound sadness that the family of Jan Edward Bonner, age 59, of Hobart, announce his passing on October 2, 2021. Jan was born in Gary, IN and resided in Hobart, IN for most of his life. He graduated from Hobart High School in 1981. After high school Jan spent time as a machine operator at Pre-Coat Metals (formerly Metro) where he was a proud member of the International Longshoremen’s Association Local 2038. A devout Christian, Jan was an avid churchgoer, and he often found comfort in reading the scriptures. Jan was a lover of all forms of art, but he was especially enthusiastic about classical music, as well as music self-produced by his own son, Perry. He was an accomplished painter for the better part of four decades and a member of Fine Art America. Jan’s innovative use of acrylic, digital, and multi-media techniques and materials will remain forever cherished by those fortunate enough to have known him. Held above all else and kept closest to his heart were Jan’s three grandchildren. They often enjoyed spending time together and fishing off the shores of their favorite lake. He will be greatly missed.
Jan is survived by his parents-Perry Q. and Mary (nee d’Ouville) Bonner; wife-Brigitte Bonner (nee Sandilla); daughters-Jo Bonner, Nancy (Aaron) Wineinger; son-Perry A. Bonner; grandchildren-Cole, McKenzie, AaronGene; siblings-Mark, Kurt (Mary Ellen), Chris (Dave) Gurley, Madelynn (Scott) Pierson, Clete (Donna), Annissa (Doug) Keleman, Kyle, Jessica (Alan) Wroblewski, Amanda (Dave) Couto, and Lane (Crystal); numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Visitation for Jan will be Saturday, October 9, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., at Burns Funeral Home, 701 East 7th Street, Hobart. Interment at Calvary Cemetery, Portage.
