A Hobart woman died at Porter Memorial Hospital in Valparaiso following a one-car accident on U.S. 421 in LaPorte County early Saturday morning. Mercedes S. Kidwell, 19, of Hobart, was pronounced dead shortly after 3 a.m. after physicians there tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate her, said a hospital spokeswoman.
