Richard (Dick) Anderson - Class Of 1957

OBITUARY FROM THE NW INDIANA TIMES, MAY 4, 2009

Richard Anderson, "Dick", age 70, of Crown Point, on May 2, 2009, entered into heaven after battling cancer for many years.

He is survived by his daughter, Teri Anderson; sisters: Marian (William) Leets, Sharon (James) Whittinghill and sister-in-law, Norma Anderson; many cousins, nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise; his brothers: Allan and Wayne Anderson; and his parents Robert and Edna Anderson. Richard was born January 20, 1939. He grew up in Hobart and was a graduate of Hobart High School, class of 1957, where he earned varsity letters in basketball, baseball, cross country, and football. He was a member of the US Coast Guard from 1960-1968. On August 25, 1962, he married Louise Massa. In 1964 he graduated from Indiana State University with a Bachelors degree in industrial education. Richard worked at US Steel for 39 years where he was a general foreman and retired in 1997. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Crown Point. He was a warm and caring person that loved life, who will be missed by all. His many interests included I.U. basketball, woodworking, golfing, and going to dinner with friends. He loved trail riding his horse, Apache, and spending time in Brown County. He also enjoyed being a snowbird traveling to Florida during the winter months.

Friends and relatives may visit with the family at the Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point on Tuesday, April 5, 2009, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, April 6, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 321 Joliet Street, Crown Point, with Rev. Patrick J. Kalich officiating. Richard will lie in state at the church from 9:15 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. (time of services) Interment will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville. Donations in Richard's memory can be made to St. Mary's Church or the humane society of choice.
