She was born in Hobart, Indiana on August 15,1937. Dolly was raised by her parents, Mary R. Mikolajczyk (nee Jachimczak) and Stephen J. Mikolajczyk, both of whom preceded her in death. Upon the early death of her father from Tuberculosis when Dolly was only 9 years old, her maternal grandparents, Anna and Stanley Jachimczak lovingly cared for her and her siblings along with their mother.

She graduated from Hobart High School and was a member of the Polish National Catholic Church in New Chicago. They lived a block from Lake Michigan at Miller beach and moved to Lakes of the Four Seasons in 1971, with their two children Bruce II and Sheri. The family owned and operated Century 21 Four Seasons, Inc. in the Four Seasons area for over 30 years. She and her husband Bruce were active in the Four Seasons Community they so loved.
