Gertrude Moreno Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory on Jun. 17, 2026.
Gertrude A. Moreno, lovingly known as Mandy, passed away on June 13, 2026, in Valparaiso, Indiana, at the age of 88.

She was born on October 14, 1937, in Valparaiso, Indiana, and lived a life marked by devotion, kindness, and a deep love for her family and community.

Mandy graduated from Hobart High School and carried the values of hard work and determination throughout her life. She worked for many years as a meat wrapper at Joe Tittle's, where she was known for her dependable nature and strong work ethic. Later, she retired as a custodian from Valparaiso High School, where she continued to serve others with quiet dedication. She was truly a hardworking woman, admired by all who knew her for the pride and care she brought to every job she undertook.

Above all else, Mandy was devoted to her family. She was the loving wife of Frank Moreno for 65 years, and together they built a life filled with love, companionship, and cherished memories.

She is survived by her daughters, Cindy (Greg) Fadell and Denise (Don) Mohamed; her sister-in-law, Donna Orosz; seven grandchildren, Bridget (Neil), Mandy (Eddy), Tonia (Jimmie), Danny, Erica (Robert), Stephanie (Joe), and Greg (Ange); ten great-grandchildren, Haley (Jordan), Austin, Logan, Kyle, Maddie, Lauren, Julz, Xavier, Javy, and Jackie; two great-great-grandchildren, Avery and Eli; and several nieces and nephews.

Her family was the center of her world, and she made sure every person felt loved, cared for, and remembered.

Mandy was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Alberta (Gast) Sandberg; her husband, Frank Moreno; her sister, Loretta Honchar; and her brothers, Charles Sandberg, Walter Sandberg, and John Sandberg. Though she experienced many losses throughout her life, she met each challenge with strength, grace, and an enduring spirit that remained loving and optimistic.

Those who knew Mandy will remember her as one of the most caring and loving people they ever met. She had a special way of looking after others, always making sure her loved ones arrived home safely. Her familiar words, "Make sure you call me when you get home," reflected the depth of her concern and the tenderness of her heart. She was the kind of person who would call before someone even pulled into the driveway, simply because she cared that much. Her selfless nature touched everyone around her.

Mandy found joy in life's simple and meaningful pleasures. She loved going to the beach and always did her best to skip along the shoreline, bringing a lighthearted spirit wherever she went. She enjoyed spending time at the family summer home in Middlebury, Indiana, especially by the lake, where she could relax and appreciate the beauty of the water. She loved sweet treats and treasured the time she spent playing cards with Frank, fishing, and riding on the boat. Their love was true and lasting, and those memories will be held dearly by all who knew them. She also enjoyed visiting Shipshewana, where she found happiness in the area's charm and warmth.

Mandy lived a life defined by love, optimism, and selflessness. She gave generously of herself to her family, her work, and everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her presence brought comfort, her words brought reassurance, and her example left a lasting impression. She will be remembered not only for the life she lived but for the love she shared so freely. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends, who will forever cherish the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 20, 2026 at Graceland Cemetery, 1505 Morthland Dr., Valparaiso, IN 46383. A visitation and viewing will be from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. until service time at Graceland Cemetery Chapel. Sunset Funeral Home, Evansville, is caring for the arrangements.
