HATTEN, DALE L. Sergeant Major USMC (retired)
Sergeant Major Dale L. Hatten, USMC (Retired) received his final orders on Sunday, May 29. He suffered a massive heart attack. Dale was born on July 9, 1936 in Hobart, Indiana. He joined the Marine Corps in 1955 and retired in 1979. He saw action in Vietnam in 1964, 1967 and 1968. His personal decorations include the Bronze Star with combat V and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with a silver star.
Upon retiring from the Marine Corps, he worked for local companies Singer Kearfott, Accurate Security, SSD Security and BioFilm. After retirement Dale became an active member of the 1st Marine Division Association, and the 1/5 Vietnam Veterans. He was a docent in the Command Museum at MCRD, San Diego and also served on the Board of the museum. He also enjoyed many hours volunteering for the Friends of the Vista Library.
Survived by his beloved wife, Lois, daughters Gerrie Hatten and Caryn Montgomery, her husband Jeff, grandchildren Megan and Mackenzie Montgomery, brother and sister-in-law Lyle and Gerri Hatten and family. A Memorial service in his honor will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 10, at the United Methodist Church of Vista, 490 S. Melrose. A Full Military Honor Guard Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma. Please sign the guest book at obituaries.uniontrib.com
