Agnes Keppel (Wagner) - Class Of 1940

Agnes Jane Wagner passed away peacefully on May 3, 2011. Mrs. Wagner was born December 2, 1922, in West Newton, Pennsylvania. She was raised in Indiana and remained a Hobart resident for most of her life. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ernest J. Wagner; parents Samuel M. Keppel and Anna Keppel and one brother, Ira Keppel. Mrs. Wagner was a 1940 graduate of Hobart High School. Upon graduation she worked as secretary and bookkeeper for Jacobson Lumber Company in Hobart. She married Ernest J. Wagner in 1946 and together the couple developed an interest in real estate. She and her husband were instrumental in developing commercial property including a strip mall at the intersection of state routes 6 & 51 in Hobart. Mrs. Wagner also worked for Ittel Realty & Insurance where she retired in the late eighties. Following her retirement she remained active in the community volunteering her time to non-profit organizations including The Answer and The Caring Place. She was also an avid dog lover and contributed to several animal rights organizations including the Hobart Humane Society, where she also volunteered, as well as, the Humane Society of the United States.

Mrs. Wagner resided in Hobart most of her life until she moved to Crown Point, Indiana and later relocated to Indianapolis to be closer to her family. She was an active member of the Order of Eastern Stars for many years, which also included her election as an officer in 1966. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary (2004, 2005); the Elk’s Lodge No. 1152 (2003-2006) and served as a deacon for the Hobart Presbyterian Church where she was a lifetime congregant.

Mrs. Wagner is survived by two daughters; Tammy Wagner of Fishers, Indiana and Michelle Hale of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. Her family would like to thank all those who provided care for her during the remaining years of her life with particular gratitude given to the staff at Westpark Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center and Season Hospice & Palliative Care, both of Indianapolis.

Funeral service for Mrs. J. Wagner will be held Monday, May 9,2011 at 11:00 am at Rees Funeral Homes, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, with Pastor Jeffrey Carter officiating.

Visitation will be Sunday, May 8, 2011 from 2:00-8:00pm also at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart. Burial at Calumet Park Cemetery.
